Dr. Madan Thangavelu
PhD, Genome Biologist, Sankhya Expert

Dr. Madan Thangavelu is a genome biologist living in Cambridge, UK, with a diverse academic background and range of research interests. He is a native of Kerala and has a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture and a Master’s in Plant Breeding and Genetics, both from Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana.

As an Inlaks Foundation Scholar at the University of Cambridge (1982 Trinity Hall), his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics focused on the genes for the cytoskeletal protein actin, and his post-doctoral research experiences span areas in plant, fungal, bacterial, and human cancer genomics.

He is the inventor of the Molecular Copy Counting technique, and his current primary research interest is the development of single DNA molecule and single cell techniques for genome analysis. These techniques provided unusual insights into genomic variation, the highly plastic nature of the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes, and the epigenome and uncertainty in biology, leading him to study deeper concepts of Ayurveda.

He is the General Secretary and Research Director of the European Ayurveda Association. He is Honorary Adjunct Professor at the TransDisciplinary University, Bangalore, India, Center for Functional Genomics & Bioinformatics.
